The Pilanesberg Game Breeders group is well-known for innovation and their 2017 auction proved no different. The auction, held at the magnificent Millvale Private Retreat golf course venue, played host to the invitation everyone in the game industry craved: The Buffalo Cup Invitational.
On 3 May 2017, the day before the auction, invited players and guest enjoyed a fantastic day of golf on of the world’s best golf courses. The Pilanesberg group’s hospitality made sure everyone had a tremendous time and the festivities continued into the evening, with a special auction to wet the appetite for the next day.
The second part of the Buffalo Cup Invitational consisted of the first 11 lots of the next day’s auction. Only top quality buffalo genetics were on offer. With the buffalo species proving its consistent performance in the industry, these 11 lots delivered a total turnover of R17m.
A highlight lot was number three. The 38 7⁄8″ buffalo cow Quanda (SCI: 89 4⁄8″) was sold for R4m, in calf to 50 2⁄8″ Morena. (All buffalo lots contained female animals.)
The main auction also proved that quality genetics rule in the game industry of today. With a total turnover of R11.7, the Pilanesberg Game Breeders auction 2017 produced a combined R28.7m.
Highlight species included wildebeest, sable, springbok and buffalo.
